ON RACISM by Redd_k

I am a racist. I wish there were more like me, but I will not hold my breath waiting for that. And once more I am in disagreement with the people who define words in dictionaries. I have a number of them, including a 1930 edition of Webster's that is a 9" x 12.5" book, 5" thick that doesn't even have the word in it; another that defines "racism" and "racialism" as an "exaggeration of inherent racial differences," and a "prejudice in favor of certain races," but doesn't even include the word "racial," despite using it. More modern dictionaries, trying to put a good face on the fact of racial hatreds, go overboard in criticism (personal opinions of lexicographers which have no place in dictionaries). So I'll define it:

racist (you pronounce it): a love of and an appreciation of the phenomenon of variety in (mankind).

That goofy belief of liberals that someday we will have a colorless gray race of man, is better off left quiet lest their hatreds and ignorance show. I hope we never lose the distinctions we have, which even become more beautiful with mixture. (Uh oh...one of my prejudices is showing there. I am half Irish, half Japanese, and pretty! Haha). And speaking of mixture, what are the Irish of today but a composite of many races? The Japanese themselves, a very prejudiced race, are a mixture of the aboriginal Ainu, many types of Oriental, and of course Polynesian which distinguishes them most from other Asian Orientals. Whenever I think of all the bits and pieces of races that made me what I am, I glory in the great qualities that each has, and that I hope will rub off on me.

A friend of my father who is Cuban was once talking of that wonderful mixture they claim, at the same time he was putting down similar West Indian and Central American "races" with Spanish roots. But he did admit that a "Landsmann" of his, in defense of the Cuban influx into Florida, said that mankind is like a fruit cocktail: Each part delicious alone, but even better in combination. I wish I had said that first.

Hatreds of those different from us is a waste of time and energy. It accomplishes nothing. Yet most people harbor hatreds whether they admit it or not. I confess to some, and I really do fight myself on this. For example, there is a traditional hatred of the English in Ireland that will probably last forever. I hate what they did to the Irish since 1069, and until I find a way around this I will "hate" the Sasana (Anglo-Saxon). But that is more nationalistic than racist I think. In fact it is more like the "hatred" a Dodger fan feels for the Giants than like the hatreds that we see all around us because we are different from one another.

When I was doing my research on the matter of intelligence testing, the infamous IQ Test in all its forms, I came across a particular brand of negative racism. Not the mistaken belief that the tests are designed to favor white and Asian races, but the fact that the tests were constantly being revised in an attempt to favor blacks and Hispanics, who always seem to be below their white and Asian fellows. When this proved impossible, it then became vogue that no IQ test was any good. (What a cop-out). If it turns out that certain races are on average better off in the intelligence department, so what? Each race has unique talents, and since the vast majority of the world's population are below an average intelligence level, all that means is that the average is a hypothetical math result. It is better to look at the better qualities each race has to offer, and accept that all can not have the same IQ any more than that they can be the "gray" color of the blended race the liberals think is best. When I look at racial differences I see that as the best quality we all have. That I am different from you, and you from me, is a good thing. We can share what we have.

Redd_K

Hi...I'm Redd_k, a 20 year-old girly as of this writing, in no way normal, so I remain partially anonymous. Who cares? I live in Redding, CA where I was born, had 12 years of parochial schooling and lack only two classes to earn my AA in business. I do intend to go on for the BA, but no hurry because I am already "positioned" as a partner in my best friend's on-going business as a consultant to cosmetics companies' marketing departments. My writing had always been private until I met MSallthat who encouraged me to put some of it in the internet. I'm not really a poet, but have tried that too. Mostly I write opinionated pieces because I need the outlet, but how much of that deserves to be in the Hold I leave to MS's good judgment.
One of my quirks is a total fascination with Faerie, so I will submit pieces of that nature as well. I am half Irish and not only believe in the Faeries; I depend on them. My other half is Japanese, and they as a people are pretty weird too, believing in a netherword of their own, so I am a complete and willing victim of the Little People. If you read my stuff, go ahead and put your tongue in your cheek, but I at least am serious about what I write.
