The New Emptiness

    Ginger played 'Toad' for me
    Sitting beside the pool
Laying out in a hellish rainstorm
    Laughing at the ants
Trying to move my chaise longue.

    The ant god is a
Ball peen hammer that allows ants
To invent up to five funny things
    A minute!

This pencil has a #2 on it. haha!
    Take your collar off and
Make yourself a home. Oh man.
    Killing me!

    Don't burn your butterfingers.
    The fire is returning.
    In waves.

God, it was all so beautiful once.

    The Multiverse

I go to work in the morning.
    My bed stays at home
    Like an unemployment counsellor.
    Patterned sheets
    Mocking everything.

    At home in the evening
The people in the next room
    Sit in front
    Of a screaming appliance.

    Their mirth
    Expresses itself,
    Indeed,
    Like thorns crackling
    Under a pot.

    Back in my bedroom
    I tighten the leopard muffs
    And grope around
    Inside the uplifted shirt
    Of my imagination.

    On certain January mornings
    Faces collect in store fronts
    Like Etruscans real
    Realer than departing flies
    In crow-black gloves
    The untouched last supper
    Of the last of the
    Once famous suicide monks.

Joe Mahoney - yoricknixon
I am a software exec. and I do secret internet foo. I live near Boston, Massachusetts and spend a lot of time in San Francisco.
I began writing poetry a few years ago in a brave but ultimately feckless attempt to stave off a canonical entrapment breakdown.
I sometimes write with a pseudonym: Yorick_Nixon. I also write music and play musical instruments. I was a member of Boston noise band Inner Beauty and San Francisco improv combo Senator Buchanon. With the members of Inner Beauty I co-authored a pre-web internet published dystopic novel entitled "Skunk Angst".
Any spare time I have I read Shakespeare or listen to Bach. Bach seems to be the one thing all nerds agree on. I've lost touch with my culture. Though my friend Janet has turned me onto Cat Power. My only firmly held cultural belief is that Chan Marshall of Cat Power is kind of a babe.
